Weight
Loss Tips and Free Resources
Everyday there is growing concern over the foods we consume,
the portions we consume and the lack of exercise. Fortunately,
there are options out there to combat the ever growing battle
with obesity. Weight loss has become a billion dollar industry
and there are legitimate weight loss techniques that have
helped to fight the obesity battle.
Food and
Nutrition
Nutrition is crucial to losing weight and maintaining a healthy
lifestyle. The United States Department of Health and Human
Services issues guideline for healthy eating each year. By
promoting healthy choices of lean proteins, fruits, vegetables,
whole grains and fat-free or low-fat milk/milk products, weightloss
and weight management becomes even easier. Many of the diets
popular in today’s society follow these simple guidelines.
The Atkins™ diet calls for a low-carb diet, limiting
carbohydrates to 20 grams per day while offering limitless
lean protein choices and other extras such as cheese or salad
dressings. The South Beach Diet™ promotes healthier
choices to aid in weight loss; they promote choosing the right
carbohydrates, the right fats and lean sources of protein.
Diets like these promote weight loss by changing the eating
habits and portion sizes of the dieter. Other diets such as
Jenny Craig™ and Weight Watchers™ provide food
options for their clients and promote lower calorie intake
along with healthier choices and portion control. On average,
women should consume approximately 2000 calories per day while
men should consume approximately 2400-2800 calories per day.
These caloric intakes are of course approximations and calorie
intake should be adjusted to achieve maximum weight loss.
Diets such as Medifast™ and Nutrisystem™ reduce
caloric intake down to 1000 – 1300 calories by providing
pre-made meals and limiting carbohydrates. All of these choices,
as well as others out there promote weight loss and can be
supplemented with exercise and supplements.
Herbs
and Supplements
In addition to diet and exercise, there are a wide range
of herbal supplements and supplements available to help promote
and increase weight loss. While many diet pills dpromote rapid
weight loss, there are many factors to consider. In general,
supplements and herbs can boost metabolism, decrease appetite
and increase energy. When used in conjunction with diet and
exercise, results can be achieved and maintained. Appetite
suppressants are a common form of weight loss pills. They
increase the rate of metabolism and help to control appetites.
Another form of weight loss pills are fat and carbohydrate
blockers that help restrict the absorption of fat into the
digestive tract. Caffeine is a common ingredient in these
products and is proven to help convert fat to energy especially
when weight loss pills are consumed prior to exercise. Herbal
diet supplements are gaining popularity among weight loss
pills. Herbs are used for their scent, flavor and/or therapeutic
values. Herbs such as green tea, cocoa nut, and hoodia are
commonly found in weight loss supplements and help promote
weight loss. As well as weight loss pills and herbs, supplements
to the weight loss regime also help promote healing from exercise
and increased energy. Also supplements such as protein shakes,
protein bars, and meal replacement shakes help reduce the
number of empty calories consumed and of include a daily dosage
of different vitamins, minerals and fibers. As with any supplement,
the user should follow recommended dosages and watch for side
effects.
Fitness
and Exercise
Whether you run outside everyday, play soccer with friends
on the weekend or go to the gym three times a week, physical
exercise is important in promoting weight loss and keeping
the weight off. While sports are a great choice for children
to be part of, many adults do not have the time or the resources
to play team sports. The health club / gym is a great option
for many people who are trying to lose weight or maintain
a healthy weight. The gym has evolved from the boxing clubs
and free weights only, to a huge variety of cardio machines,
cardio classes, nautical machines and free weights. The availability
of gyms to the general public allows for easy access and a
variety of different types to choose from. There are women
only gyms, classes targeted to core areas to promote weight
loss, and trainers available to consult with to find the best
workout to lose weight and to maintain weight. Losing weight
is never a one step process and combining physical activity
with proper nutrition and supplements can lead to quicker
weight loss.
Professional
and Medical Weight Loss
Medical weight loss techniques are often considered for those
who are morbidly obese. These techniques require a medical
consultation and are not for everyone. Losing weight is a
challenge for most people and the procedures can often seem
radical. Gastric bypass has been proven to provide weight
loss for those who are morbidly obese and have a significant
amount of weight to loss. The procedure began in the 1950’s
and has evolved into the procedure that we are familiar with
today. By creating a smaller stomach pouch, gastric bypass
allows the person to consume a much smaller amount of food
each day. While the procedure may seem extreme, it has a proven
success rate in people losing a significant amount of weight.
Other versions of the procedure are also used, including as
silicon band being placed around the stomach to decrease the
amount of food one can fit into the stomach. Because surgery
is used only in morbidly obese cases, prescription weight
loss pills are more common, less invasive and cost efficient
for the user. The prescription pills work in many of the same
ways as the over the counter diet pills but tend to contain
stronger appetite suppressants. These pills are closely regulated
by the FDA and like any medicine, need a prescription from
a licensed medical professional. |
