Eating
Out (fast food) vs Eating at Home (recipes, etc.)
Eating Out
Fast food has always been the leading giant in the world of
grabbing a quick bite to eat. Hence the “fast”
in the term fast food. Even though the restaurant’s
food contains high amounts of fat, sugar, and salt, people
continue to consume, sometimes violently. Maybe it’s
because it tastes good.
More recently, however, there has
been talk over how destructive this food is to our bodies.
People began to say that they need to stay away from foods
sold in fast food restaurants because they don’t want
the health risk, nor do they want the extra pounds that come
with it. The fast food restaurants realized this, perhaps
slower than expected, and began to offer healthier alternatives
to their super sized burgers. Places like McDonald’s
and Wendy’s now offer salads that will satisfy both
your appetite and your taste buds, without sparing you the
extra calories compared to a burger and fries. McDonald’s
also offers a new fruit and yogurt parfait that is a good
substitute for a snack or a smart alternative for dessert.
Even though these “healthy” substitutes are somewhat
better for you than the alternative, they may be deceiving
because many still contain ingredients not beneficial for
your body. A good amount of the salads come with dressing,
cheese, and croutons that are all high in fat and calories.
Some salads may be topped off with a piece of chicken that
could’ve been cooked in oil, making the healthy salad
suddenly increase in fat content. Suddenly Similarly, a piece
of grilled chicken between a white bun looks like your best
option at the time, but don’t let your eyes be fooled.
What we were taught long ago does not remain true. Let me
tell you a little secret. A grilled chicken sandwich from
McDonald’s almost doubles the amount of calories that
are in a hamburger. Now that’s something to be shocked
by.
Fast food restaurants like McDonald’s are making it
easier for all you diet gurus to count your points, calories,
fiber, or whatever it is people are counting these days. On
their website, McDonald’s features their menu listing
the nutritional information next to each food item. McDonald’s
has even just recently begun to offer bottled water as an
alternative to soft drinks. Isn’t that quenching?
Although fast food restaurants contain foods that are healthier
alternatives, they still contain high amounts of fat and calories.
But if it’s the fast that you desire in the fast food,
then the healthy alternatives are worth it. Just do your research
so you can be smart to your health without being fooled by
the big guys.
Eating In
Eating at home brings with it several benefits. It becomes
cheaper in the long run, saving you money that you would normally
spend on fast food. It is an easier way to eat healthy and
allows for more opportunity to eat a healthy meal. There is
more accuracy when it comes to measuring your food, so that
you may be able to realize exactly how much you are eating.
There is more variety and more control over exactly what you
get in your meal. When eating out, there is a limited menu,
and there may not be substitutions. When in the comfort of
your own kitchen, the type of food you can eat is at the touch
of your fingers. Another healthy benefit for eating at home
includes the family’s ability to dine together. When
a family eats together at the dinner table without distractions
from the television, they are more likely to engage in conversation
by sharing what they did that day, thereby developing a stronger
bond and relationship with each other. The relationship of
the family then becomes healthier.
