Weight Loss via Healthy Eating, not Dieting
In a survey conducted by the NPD Group Inc of New York, it has been found that most Americans have now chosen to eat healthier instead of going on a diet.
Compared to data from 10 years ago, the number of American adults that are on a “diet” has decreased significantly. In most instances, dieting is seen as an unhealthy way to lose weight. Not only do these adults feel frustrated but they also feel deprived and hungry, during the duration of their diet.
The survey also showed that the number one motivation for going on a diet was to improve overall health. This only means that people are accepting their weight more and more and focusing on the real question – “Am I healthy?”. According to the survey, the most popular diet was the one that the dieters have come up with by themselves. These diets were researched and checked for lifestyle compatibility.
It was also noted that majority of the American adults involved in the survey want to lose 20 pounds. Out of 10 dieters, eight stated that their goal was to improve their health and of course, lose weight. In the United States, the number of adults who think overweight individual are unattractive has decreased to 25 percent.
Despite the desire for a healthier eating habit, there is still a large number of Americans who opt for convenience, choosing to buy their meals from fast food chains and restaurants.
Realistic Weight Loss
Survey results like these are clearly showing a great improvement on how Americans understand the meaning of being healthy. If you have been struggling with weight issues for a long time now, you should try to make sure that your priority is your health. Eating healthier instead of following fad diets will be more beneficial in the long run. You may not achieve your weight loss goals immediately but the gradual slimming down due to right food choices will ensure keeping off the extra weight more permanently.
To jumpstart your desire to eat more healthy foods, you should do the following.
• Consult a doctor and get tested – in case you have a medical condition like allergies that might be triggered when following a specific diet, you should first visit your doctor and get your diet plans approved.
• Know where to shop – most people fail to eat healthier because healthy foods such as fruits and vegetables are difficult to find compared to fast food meals. You should make an effort to look for these healthy foods in your neighborhood. Ask around or search the internet and have your fruits and veggies delivered.
• Take supplements – if you are having a hard time finding healthy foods, you can always rely on herbal supplements to provide you with your daily nutrient requirement. You should just make sure that you are buying your supplements from reliable sources.
Eating healthier is a good to start the New Year right. Coupled with regular physical activity, your weight loss objectives will be realized sooner than you think.
