Why Teasing Results to Weight Issues in Teens

According to Nuemark- Sztainer, an author of a book about how parents can help in weight-related problems, teasing is one of the factors why many teenagers suffer from eating disorders and obesity. Teenagers with weight issues feel bad whenever they are being mocked. As a result, they tend to eat more to cover up how they feel and this is when obesity becomes a problem. A recent study shows that about one-quarter of teens are overweight.

Teenagers should deal with their emotions properly. They should not allow other people to put them down and make them feel that they do not deserve to be happy. Everyone should have the same opportunities in living a good life. Doing this is not always easy, so here are some tips that can help you and your teen:

Prove them wrong. Ridicule and insult can be used as an motivation to lose weight. People who have weight problems must use each mockery as a source of strength in order to find ways how to experience and achieve weight loss. If people who are overweight manage to shed some pounds, people who used to tease them will be embarrassed, astonished, and speechless about the sudden change in their figure. If they just absorb everything they hear without doing anything about it they will only feel depressed and unwanted. Teens should use the negative comments being told about them as motivation in order to look good and feel better.

Read some Self Help Books. People with weight problems can read books in order for them to boost their self-esteem and confidence. Listening and taking negative things being told about them seriously will only make them suffer emotionally and physically. They should find ways in order to feel beautiful and pretty inside and out. When people feel good about themselves already, they will be enthusiastic and happy about losing weight. Losing weight and having a balanced diet should be done by people in order to improve themselves.

Look in the mirror. People should always find time to look at themselves in the mirror. Individuals should always take good care of themselves. It is not just for vanity purposes that teenagers should evaluate themselves every once in a while. They should try to find out if they are not physically fit anymore. A particular person’s height has an ideal corresponding weight. If teenagers see that they are not at their usual size, they should weigh themselves. Then they can do exercise, take natural weight loss supplements, and watch what they eat before it is too late. One should not be carefree for you may not know that your health might be at risk already.

There are a lot of ways in order to fight obesity. Allowing negative emotions to get the most of you will only make things worse. However, teenagers should improve their body figure for themselves more than for anyone else.
