Walk to Burn More Calories and Lose Weight

According to Mark Penton, author of “Pedometer Walking”, a person can burn extra calories and lose weight even without enrolling in a gym. The key is making sure that you meet the required 10,000 steps daily. Sounds impossible? Well, Penton says that with a little creativity, anyone could add as much as 2000 more steps weekly. All you have to do is do the following:

1. Penton suggests walking at every opportunity you get. For example, you can park your vehicle a block away from your office, take a longer route when you walk on your way home or walk to the next nearest pharmacy or post office drop box. Any of these activities can add around 600 steps for every 5 minutes.
2. For television addicts, you should purchase a treadmill. It does not matter whether it is new or used as long as you promise to use it every time you watch TV. An extra 7,800 steps per one hour of television.
3. Join a group. If you are a person who enjoys socializing, you can do so and burn calories at the same time. There are many running or hiking groups which you can join. Search for them over the internet or ask around your neighborhood. By becoming a member, you are guaranteed of an extra 7,800 steps per hour.
4. Walk before you shop. Shopaholics can earn an extra 1,200 steps per 10 minutes if they walk an extra lap around the department store before they begin to shop.
5. Volunteer at the local museum of zoo. Being a tour guide in any of these places guarantees you at least 4,000 steps per hour. In addition to this, you will feel good doing something for your community.
6. Substitute one car or bus ride a week with walking. This is actually a great idea since you save much on fuel costs and also help in reducing pollution. You can start with one substitution a week and work your way to once per day. You will make 3,600 extra steps per 30 minutes.
7. Walk instead during downtime. While waiting for your child’s ballet or piano lessons, you can choose to walk around the immediate neighborhood instead of just sitting around. You will make at least 3,900 extra steps per half an hour.
8. Become a walking school bus. If you happen to be living near a school, you can become the local walking school bus for your neighbors’ kids twice or thrice a week. it would mean an extra 2,400 steps per 20 minutes.

These are just samples of what you can do to help you burn calories and lose weight, without even noticing it. Of course, you should not forget to eat right and take weight loss supplements as well. Just make sure that your weight loss supplements do not contain harmful chemicals and are made from natural herb extracts. It is also important to drink plenty of water wile doing all these walking.
