Keeping Your Blood Sugar Levels Healthy
Many people make the mistake of thinking that only diabetics need to maintain low blood sugar levels. Just recently, researchers have linked blood sugar level with cancer risks, particularly in women. Aside from cancer, people with abnormally high blood sugar levels are found to be more likely candidates for heart troubles and of course, diabetes. Fortunately, Professor Martin Wiseman of the Medical and Scientific adviser for World Cancer Research Fund has offered five great tips to ensure that you maintain a healthy blood sugar level.
Tip#1 Watch Your Weight and lose weight if you have to.
As you may know by now, overweight individuals are more likely to have high blood sugar levels and develop diabetes. If you are serious in lowering your blood sugar levels to within normal limits, make sure that your weight is proportional to your height and body structure. If you manage your weight properly, you will have an easier time managing your blood sugar levels.
Tip#2 Eat Healthy to manage your blood sugar.
Monitoring what you eat is very important if you want to make sure your blood sugar levels remain normal. If you love to eat, why not choose something healthier. For example, instead of the regular pasta, you should buy the whole wheat kind since it contains fewer calories. White rice can be replaced with brown rice, too. Also make sure that you eat plenty of vegetables and fruits for protein and fiber.
Tip #3 Ignore Your Sweet Tooth b/c you cannot lose weight when you eat sugar.
If you are a fan of sweets and other sugary treats, you should make sure that you reduce your personal consumption. It would seem very difficult to do this but you really must try to resist temptation. Just remember that moderation is the key and if you eat much sweets make sure that you only consume a little amount just to satisfy your cravings. If you like chocolates, you should go for the dark chocolate ones since they contain less sugar.
Tip#4 Load up On Fiber to Keep a Full Feeling and Eat Less
Eating plenty of vegetables can make you feel full and would control your appetite even better. The fiber content found in green leafy vegetables would also help in clearing away unwanted toxins from your body. Drinking 8 glasses of water a day is also recommended to remove body wastes.
Tip#5 Exercise to burn calories = weight loss
Aside from maintaining an ideal weight by eating healthy, you should also try to be more physically active. You will be surprised how a 30-minute walk everyday can do wonders for your health. If you have a job that requires you to sit in front of the computer all day, you should try and get up at least every hour and stretch. Since many people would use the excuse of being too busy, you can always take the stairs instead of the elevator or walk to and from your home.
Following these tips could mean the difference between a longer, healthier life and one that is riddled with health concerns. You will feel naturally alert and active as well as feel great overall if you make sure that your blood sugar levels are perfectly within limits.
